Abstract:

Every week opportunities to use negotiation strategies are encountered. Some are in our personal lives; others are in our professional work. The disagreement spectrum is broad and runs from mild disagreements to the complex and testy. The techniques presented in this workshop are useful when it is important to maintain working relationships and continue interpersonal interactions. A real situation is discussed in the workshop to help participants learn. Note that the workshop is 2 hours.

Biography:

Dorothy Rodmann has been a Career Consultant with the ACS Career Services Program since 1987. This was the year that she was instrumental in the design of the first job search workshop. Since 1987, Dorothy has presented approximately a dozen workshops a year on job searching and related issues. She has also developed other workshops, namely: Listening Techniques: Basic to Improving Interpersonal Skills, Critical Steps to Success, and Negotiation Techniques.

Dorothy has her own consulting business in the Washington, DC area and specializes in career counseling. She works across all professional disciplines in providing career assistance to others. She was formerly Director of Human Resources for the American Chemical Society's Washington Headquarters Office. She did her undergraduate and graduate work in economics with a specialty in money and banking. Dorothy is the prime example of the ability to transition; she has used her skills to work effectively in several disciplinary areas.
