Cherlyn Bradley Committee on Committees (ConC)

The Committee on Committees (ConC) is one of three Council Committees of the American Chemical Society whose members are elected. 

ConC is charged by ACS Bylaws with maintaining a strong and vibrant committee system for all Council related committees.  Every five years, the committee regularly reviews individual committees to ensure they are operating in a manner consistent with their mission.

  
Charles Cannon Economic and Professional Affairs (CEPA) The Committee identifies and monitors the needs of the chemical workforce and develops, coordinates, and oversees the implementation of programs and activities to enhance the economic and professional status of chemical professionals.  
Katie Carrado Divisional Activities Committee (DAC) DAC is responsible for oversight and coordination of activities of Divisions of the Society to ensure that the fields of interest, as they evolve, are served; to recommend to Council and the Board of Directors policies affecting the Divisions so as to enhance Fuel Division Councilor
David Crumrine Committee on Chemical Safety (CCS) The Committee has as its prime responsibility the encouragement of safe practices in chemical activities. The committee serves as a resource to the chemical professional in providing advice and counsel on the handling of chemicals, and seeks to ensure safe facilities, designs, and operations by calling attention to potential hazards and stimulating education in safe chemical practices.  The Committee also provides advice to other ACS units on matters related to chemical safety and health.   
Alanah Fitch Project SEED The purpose of the Project SEED Committee is to ensure that students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds have opportunities to experience the challenges and rewards of chemically related sciences. High school students have the opportunity to participate in research for over two summers and, on completion, to apply for a SEED college scholarship. Analytical Chemistry Division Councilor

Jeff Gaffney Committee on Chemistry and Public Affairs (CCPA) - consultant The committee is responsible for advice and recommendations for ACS action on public policy matters involving the chemical sciences and technologies. Argonne
Nate Gilham Admissions The Committee interprets applications for Society membership in the broadest manner so as to insure that all who are working in the chemical profession are welcome into the Society.  
Thomas Higgins Younger Chemists Committee (YCC) The American Chemical Society Younger Chemists Committee was formed to identify the needs and concerns of younger chemists and to develop programs responsive to their needs. Harold Washington College
Russell Johnson Public Relations and Communications (CPRC) The committee promotes awareness of the contributions of chemistry to society.  
Larry Koskan Committee on Environmental Improvement (CEI) The Committee on Environmental Improvement promotes the SOCIETY's as well as the public's awareness and active concern for protecting and improving the quality of human health and the environment Donlar Corporation

Claude Lucchesi Committee on Chemistry and Public Affairs (CCPA) The committee is responsible for advice and recommendations for ACS action on public policy matters involving the chemical sciences and technologies.  
Michael Morello Meetings & Expositions (M & E) The mission of the Committee on Meetings & Expositions is to study and make recommendations to Council concerning policies and problems of meetings and expositions operated by the Society, its Divisions and Local Sections, study and recommend meeting dates and locations and cooperate with the Committee on Divisional Activities in areas of mutual interest. Barb Moriarty Divisional Activities Committee (DAC) DAC is responsible for oversight and coordination of activities of Divisions of the Society to ensure that the fields of interest, as they evolve, are served; to recommend to Council and the Board of Directors policies affecting the Divisions so as to enhance the total effectiveness of the Divisions and of the Society; and to promote positive interactions within the Division structure and with other units of the Society to fulfill the mission and goals of the Society. Seymour Patinkin Local Section Actvities Committee (LSAC) LSAC will work with local sections to enhance their success, to promote the well being of their members, to promote the spirit of volunteerism, and to carry out the mission of the American Chemical Society at the professional and community level.”

Steve Sichak Constitution & Bylaws (C&B) The Committee approves revisions of and/or proposed amendments to the bylaws of Local Sections, International Chemical Sciences Chapters, and Divisions.  
Andreas Twiss-Brooks Chemical Abstract Service (CCAS) The Committee on Chemical Abstracts Service develops an informed, constructive, and supportive relationship with the SOCIETY body to manage and conduct the affairs of Chemical Abstracts Service, including reporting of each group's activities to the other; Serves as a channel for information flow between the Governing Board for Publishing, SOCIETY members, and individual Chemical Abstracts Service users to help assure that each party's needs and support are researched, recognized and appreciated., encourages and considers suggestions from the membership concerning CAS and transmitting these suggestions to the Governing Board for Publishing and the SOCIETY's Board of Directors, responds to requests by the Governing Board for Publishing that will assist in furthering the Chemical Abstracts Service mission; and Informs the Council and the Board of Directors of the Committee's activities John Creer Library; Univ of Chicago
  Committee on Minority Affairs (CMA) Oversee ACS programs devoted or related to minority issues:
  • Develop a long-range plan to ensure increased participation of minority chemical professionals and in the Society at all levels.
  • Study and make recommendations on the current status of minorities in the ACS and in the chemical sciences.

  • Promote and recognize the professional accomplishments of minorities in the chemical sciences and in the ACS.

  • Increase the interest of minority chemical professionals in the work of the Society.
