Abstract: I will discuss with you the philosophical basis, and practical outcomes, of my teaching mostly large lecture classes in first-year chemistry for the past 25 years.
Biography: Professor Kelter received his B.S. from the City College of the City University
of New York in 1976 and was awarded a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry in 1980 from
the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UN-L). Before coming to the University of
Illinois (2003) as Professor and Director of the General Chemistry Division, he
worked as an Educational Specialist for the National Aeronautics and Space
Administration, was on the faculty of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and,
most recently, held the M. F. Rourk Chair in Chemistry and Chemical Education at
the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
